Grants
Shelby County Historical District
The Shelby County Historical District has two grant program opportunities. The first is the Matching Funds Grant, which is for both commercial and residential structures. This is specifically intended to assist with restoration and maintenance of historic buildings. The second option is the Downtown Reinvestment Fund. It is intended to revitalize vacant commercial buildings in the central business district. The project must result in either retail, dining, or entertainment businesses in the street level space.

MATCHING FUNDS GRANT PROGRAM
How the Program Works
• Goal
The HDC hopes to encourage a positive community spirit through “planned preservation” activities. The goal of the matching funds grant program is to partner with those who are seeking to maintain their historic property within thE district. In so doing, we hope to further enhance and contribute to the vitality and quality of life for all who call Shelbyville home.
• Available Funds for Approved Projects
The total City matching funds that are available for the program are $70,000 to be awarded proportionately to qualifying applicants with approved projects. An approved project is one that falls within the Historic
District Guidelines and has been reviewed and approved by the HDC. Approved projects will be awarded a Certificate of Appropriateness (COA) form. Approved projects must also be in compliance with any other City regulations that apply. The program is based on a 50/50 reimbursable match. The approved project must be fully completed prior to the award of the matching funds. No partial match will be awarded.
